Job summary

SA Recycling is seeking a hardworking Laborer to join our team. The role involves outdoor work in a scrap yard, general housekeeping and assisting technical staff, with a focus on safety and reliability.

You'll learn new skills on the job and may progress to more technical tasks. Work hours are 7:30 am–4:00 pm Monday to Friday, with Saturday mornings as scheduled; overtime as needed. Competitive pay and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
• Must pass a background check.
• Ability to communicate effectively and perform basic math.
• Willingness to learn metal sorting and PPE usage.

Responsibilities

• Unloading pallets, boxes and bundles.
• Material handling, sorting, lifting and carrying.
• Unpack boxes and separate packaging materials.
• Disassemble small equipment and remove bolts.
• Operate with recycling equipment such as shears, band saws and wire strippers.
• Direct traffic of yard vehicles and perform light maintenance.

SA Recycling, an industry leader in the metals recycling and processing industry, is actively looking for a hard-working, dependable and safety minded individual to join our team as a Laborer. As a Laborer you will work on various tasks as assigned. The tasks will include, but are not limited to general housekeeping, metal processing, upgrading and assisting technical workers. A laborer shall be able to learn new skills on the job, progress to more technical tasks and become more independent.

This position will work outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Working hours are from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, and from 7:30 am to noon on Saturday as scheduled. Note, overtime scheduled as required based on business needs.

Responsibilities Of a Laborer

• Unloading pallets, boxes and bundles
• Material handling/sorting - pushing, pulling, picking, lifting, carrying, filling up hoppers, boxes and conveyor belts
• Unpacking boxes using box cutters, separating plastics, zip ties, blister packs and other packaging materials
• Disassembling small equipment, cutting wires, torquing pipefittings, removing bolts, automobile parts and appliance parts
• Work with recycling equipment for processing metal product i.e. metal shears, band saw and wire strippers
• Direct traffic of yard vehicles traveling through yard
• Light facility maintenance - painting, scraping, moving furniture and equipment
• Maintenance - selecting and using tools properly, pulling and installing parts for machinery, working with other employees to assist machinery repair
• Housekeeping - sweeping, cleaning, shoveling and debris collection
• Moderate and periodic landscaping work
• Clean up work area at the end of shift
• Keep work areas neat and orderly
• Regular attendance and punctuality are essential job functions
• Organizing materials to have more effective use of space
• Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner
• Inspection to ensure cleanup is completed
• Effective housekeeping in workplace area is an ongoing operation for safety and better hygienic conditions for all team members
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Qualifications Of a Laborer

• Must pass a medical physical and drug test
• Must pass a background check
• Preferred: high school diploma or GED
• Ability to communicate with others effectively, understand direction (written or oral) and use basic math skills as the job demands
• Willingness to learn how to sort metal, identify colors, shapes and weights, properly maintain equipment, properly utilize PPE
