The role requires operating forklifts and hand tools, following safety rules, passing a colour vision test, basic math, and 12‑hour shifts with overtime. Prior forklift experience is preferred; a high school diploma or equivalent is expected.

Qualifications

• Two years’ experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Package sorted materials into barrels, bins, pallets or Gaylords for shipping.
• Operate forklifts, pallet jacks and loaders to move items for shipment.
• Identify preventable mechanical malfunctions of machinery.
• Maintain ROM data entry and inventory control.

SUMMARY

Prepare and sort metals for recycling. Identify and remove hazardous substances.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Adheres to plant and department safety rules, safely operates all equipment and tools, identifies and reports safety problems, corrects when possible.
• Identify or test metals to be sorted by using spark or acid test, Nitrons, mill marking identification, magnets, form & shape, or other appropriate methods.
• Sort metals to separate hi‑temp alloys within their respective categories, and separate from Titanium, red metals, ferrous and non‑ferrous metals for recycling.
• Place sorted materials into barrels, bins, gaylords, pallets or other appropriate containers.
• Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, power lifts, or front‑end loaders to load bales, bundles, or other heavy items onto trucks for shipping to smelters, customers or other facilities.
• Identify preventable mechanical malfunctions of machinery.
• Apply basic computer knowledge for ROM data entry and tag creation, material sortation and inventory control.
• Clean recycling yard by sweeping, raking, picking up debris, or moving barrels and bins.
• Maintain knowledge and compliance with all ISO, Company and Safety procedures.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience – High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Two (2) years’ experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment preferred.

Competencies – Experience operating forklifts preferred. Must pass a colour vision test. Attention to detail with basic math skills, including accurate addition and subtraction. Proficient in basic computer use for work order entry and completion. Able to use basic hand tools. Physically able to frequently lift up to 35 lbs, with frequent bending. Able to multi‑task with shifting priorities and multiple interruptions. Willing to work shifts and overtime as needed, including 12‑hour shifts. Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DIMENSIONS

The job requires frequent reaching overhead, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, standing, walking, repetitive hand movements, and lifting/carrying up to 35 lbs. Frequent forklift and hand‑tool operation is required. Visual inspection of product and appropriate use of personal protective equipment (metatarsal shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hard hats, hearing protection) are mandatory.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Works primarily in a manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, flames, water and extreme heat and cold. Occasional exposure to vibrations and noise.
