Job summary

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) in Detroit, MI is seeking a General Laborer to support scrap metal processing operations. You will assist with loading, sorting, and moving materials, while following safety protocols and using PPE to keep the site clean and safe.

The role requires physical stamina, willingness to learn, and reliable teamwork in a fast-paced industrial setting. Training will cover equipment operation, material handling, and quality control processes essential to our metals

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Able to read, write, and perform basic math.
• Experience operating mobile equipment preferred.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to follow oral and written communication.
• Ability to climb ladders or steps to reach objects.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Work cooperatively with other employees and the public.
• Must be able to work in an environment with dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate and weather changes.
• Pre-Employment background, physical, and hair drug screen required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to safety standards including use of PPE and maintain cleanliness of the site.
• Load and unload materials from storage, production areas, docks, and vehicles.
• Sort recycled materials to separate high-grade metals and remove non-conforming metals.
• Operate and maintain mobile equipment including forklifts, skid steers, street sweeper, and/or water trucks.
• Perform tasks involving physical labor using standard hand tools and power tools.
• Identify scrap including grade, type, and any undesirable elements.
• Remove fluids from incoming materials or vehicles as required.
• Perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and housekeeping.
• Assist mechanics in equipment maintenance.
• Interact with customers or drivers to direct or assist them.
• Perform other general laborer tasks as required.

Summary ofResponsibilities:

• Ensure adherence to safety standards including use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), remove hazards asidentified, andmaintaincleanliness of the site.
• Load and unload materials from storage,productionareas, docks, delivery vehicles,staging areas,or containers using mobile equipment or by hand.
• Sort a variety of recycled materials and metals to separate out high-grade metals andremovesany non-conforming metals.
• Operate&maintainmobile equipment including but not limited to forklifts, skid steers, streetsweeper, and/or water trucks.
• Perform tasks involving physical labor using tools, including but not limited to standard hand tools, torch, bander, chop saw, alligator shear, sawzall, and wire snips.
• Identifyscrapincludingthe grade and type of material and any undesirable elements within the material.
• Remove fluids from incoming materials or vehicles asrequired.
• Perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and general housekeeping.
• Assistsmechanics in the maintenance of equipment including plant equipment.
• Interacts with customers or drivers to direct orassistthem.
