Job summary

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT), a Taylor, MI metal recycling operation, is hiring a General Laborer to support scrap processing and material handling. You will sort metals, operate mobile equipment, and comply with safety and PPE requirements while performing varied tasks across the site.

Responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to safety standards and wear PPE.
• Load and unload materials from storage, production areas, docks, and vehicles.
• Sort recycled materials by grade and type; remove non-conforming metals.
• Operate and maintain mobile equipment (forklifts, skid steers, etc.).
• Perform tasks with hand tools and power tools as required.
• Identify scrap metals by grade and type, noting contaminants.
• Remove fluids from incoming materials or vehicles as required.
• Maintain plant equipment and general site cleanliness.
• Assist mechanics with equipment maintenance.
• Interact with customers or drivers to direct or assist them.
• Perform other general labor tasks as required.

Summary of Responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to safety standards including use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), remove hazards asidentified, andmaintaincleanliness of the site.
• Load and unload materials from storage,productionareas, docks, delivery vehicles,staging areas,or containers using mobile equipment or by hand.
• Sort a variety of recycled materials and metals to separate out high-grade metals andremovesany non-conforming metals.
• Operate&maintainmobile equipment including but not limited to forklifts, skid steers, streetsweeper, and/or water trucks.
• Perform tasks involving physical labor using tools, including but not limited to standard hand tools, torch, bander, chop saw, alligator shear, sawzall, and wire snips.
• Identifyscrapincludingthe grade and type of material and any undesirable elements within the material.
• Remove fluids from incoming materials or vehicles asrequired.
• Perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and general housekeeping
• Assistsmechanics in the maintenance of equipment including plant equipment
• Interacts with customers or drivers to direct orassistthem
• Performs other general laborer tasks asrequired

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
