Job summary

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) in Detroit, MI is hiring a General Laborer to process scrap metals with diverse tools and equipment. The role involves loading, sorting, and handling materials while maintaining safety and site cleanliness.

The ideal candidate will have basic math reading/writing skills, good communication, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Prior experience with mobile equipment is preferred; training is provided. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and able to read, write, and perform basic math.
• Experience operating mobile equipment preferred.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to follow written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety standards and use of PPE; keep site clean and hazards removed.
• Load/unload materials from storage, docks, or vehicles with/without equipment.
• Sort recycled materials by grade and type; remove non-conforming metals.
• Operate and maintain mobile equipment (forklifts, skid steers, etc.).
• Use tools (torch, bander, chop saw, etc.) for processing tasks as needed.
• Identify scrap material and any undesirable elements; remove fluids when required.
• Assist mechanics with equipment maintenance and interact with customers or drivers.
• Perform other general labor tasks as required.

FPT isawholly-ownedbusinessofCleveland-Cliffsand hasan immediate opportunity for aGeneralLaborerat one of our Detroit, MI locations.TheGeneralLaboreris responsible forthe processing of scrap metals using various tools and equipment.

Summary ofResponsibilities:

• Ensure adherence to safety standards including use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), remove hazards asidentified, andmaintaincleanliness of the site.
• Load and unload materials from storage,productionareas, docks, delivery vehicles,staging areas,or containers using mobile equipment or by hand.
• Sort a variety of recycled materials and metals to separate out high-grade metals andremovesany non-conforming metals.
• Operate&maintainmobile equipment including but not limited to forklifts, skid steers, streetsweeper, and/or water trucks.
• Perform tasks involving physical labor using tools, including but not limited to standard hand tools, torch, bander, chop saw, alligator shear, sawzall, and wire snips.
• Identifyscrapincludingthe grade and type of material and any undesirable elements within the material.
• Remove fluids from incoming materials or vehicles asrequired.
• Perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and general housekeeping.
• Assistsmechanics in the maintenance of equipment including plant equipment.
• Interacts with customers or drivers to direct orassistthem.
• Performs other general laborer tasks asrequired.

MinimumQualifications:
