Job Description
The Highway Heavy Construction Laborer plays a key role in completing a wide range of tasks on civil, heavy, highway, and infrastructure construction projects. This position involves site preparation, maintenance, operation of hand and power tools, assisting with the installation of materials, and supporting efficient and safe project completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with site preparation, grading, excavation, and demolition tasks as directed.
- Perform manual labor such as shoveling, moving earth, pouring concrete, loading/unloading materials, and site cleanup.
- Operate standard hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Aid in the installation of storm sewers, pipes, and other underground infrastructure.
- Follow all safety standards and procedures at all times; participate in regular safety meetings and site orientations.
- Perform flagging duties to support traffic management as needed.
- Work collaboratively with other crew members to accomplish project goals.
- Adhere to directions from site supervisors and foremen, maintaining high productivity levels and work quality.
- Comply with environmental regulations, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Other duties as assigned that are related to highway heavy construction.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in highway, civil, or heavy construction (or related field).
- MNDOT flagging training completed (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to lift at least 60 lbs repeatedly and perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Valid authorization to work in the United States.
- Ability to travel to various job sites as needed.
- Commitment to safe work practices and compliance with OSHA/MSHA regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Recent MSHA or OSHA safety training certifications.
- Experience with pipe laying and storm sewer installation.
- Experience using GPS technology in construction settings.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
