Job summary

Paulus Engineering, Inc. in California is seeking a Laborer to support the installation and maintenance of underground water, sewer, and storm drain systems on a variety of projects ranging from public works to commercial sites, with a strong focus on safety and quality workmanship.

You will work with skilled tradespeople and supervisors to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and safely, with attention to pipe alignment, bedding, and compaction.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years in underground wet utility construction.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the installation of water, sewer, and storm drain pipelines.
• Excavate, dig, and backfill trenches using hand tools and/or equipment.
• Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment at job sites.
• Operate compactors, jackhammers, and other construction tools as needed.
• Build and take down scaffolding and temporary structures as needed.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Follow instructions from supervisors and work cooperatively with all other crew members.
• Ensure work is performed to meet or exceed quality standards, including proper pipe alignment, bedding, and compaction.
• Inspect materials and completed work for accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
• Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations.
• Participate in daily safety meetings and hazard assessments.
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly and consistently.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

As a Laborer in our wet utilities pipeline construction team, you will play a vital role in supporting the installation and maintenance of underground water, sewer, and storm drain systems. Duties & Responsibilities

Skills & Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in underground wet utility construction.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Prior knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment used in pipeline installation preferred.
• Knowledge of construction math skills, including how to convert quantities, take measurements, and solve basic equations.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

Physical Requirements

• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
• Must be able to operate and work around heavy equipment and machinery.
• Physically demanding tasks that include walking, kneeling, twisting, crawling, crouching, climbing, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• May require early morning, evening, or weekend work depending on project needs.
• Must be able to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Be physically qualified for lifting and moving heavy items, agile and capable of walking over rough, uneven terrain etc.

Hourly Salary

The hourly base rate for this position is between $28.39 to $49.20 per hour.

• This range is indicative of projected hiring range, however base hourly rate will be determined based on a candidate’s work location, skills and experience.
