As part of a team, the Laboratory Technologist I – Molecular Pathology will perform a variety of manual and automated procedures proficiently to produce accurate and timely results in the Molecular Pathology Laboratory within the Edmonton Zone of Alberta Precision Laboratories. Specialized techniques include nucleic acid extraction, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), fragment analysis, and next generation sequencing (NGS). The successful candidate will be required to perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of various laboratory instruments. Additionally, maintaining legible and accurate records in a well-organized manner; entering results as required; assisting with training of new employees, students, and residents in Molecular Pathology techniques; participating in quality control activities; and having the ability to work with a high level of attention to detail in a challenging work environment.
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis, and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment, and research.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Must have an understanding of molecular theory, quality control, instrumentation, laboratory information systems (LIS), and lab accreditation requirements; current clinical laboratory experience and knowledge in these techniques is preferred. Must have the ability to recognize testing/procedural anomalies and act appropriately for timely resolution. Proven effective time management and strong organizational skills are required. Your communication and interpersonal skills must enable you to build and maintain relationships, facilitate teamwork, resolve conflict, and manage change. Proficiency with windows-based computer applications, including Microsoft Office programs and mathematical calculations, is required. Must be able to represent Alberta Precision Laboratories, a wholly owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services, in a respectful, professional, and courteous manner.
Preferred Qualifications:Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems is an asset.
