Job summary

The Wang lab in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at University of Utah Health is seeking a Lab Specialist to perform biochemical and molecular biology tasks, maintain supplies, and contribute to publication-quality data under the PI guidance.

The role involves cell culture, RNA-related work, cloning, protein purification, and Illumina sequencing library construction, with a focus on collaboration and data quality. 40-hour dayshift schedule; external posting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or other scientific disciplines in a related field or equivalency.
  • Undergraduate GPA higher than 3.2/4.
  • Willing to commit to the job for at least two years.
  • Good at basic calculations in the laboratory setting.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and ask for guidance when needed.
  • This position may require the successful completion of a criminal background check and/or drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory research as directed by the supervisor(s). Responsibilities will be modified as the technician gains experience in our lab.
  • molecular biology assays (molecular cloning, protein purification, sequencing, etc.).
  • Cellular assays (cell culture, transfection, western blotting, RT-qPCR, etc)
  • Attends laboratory meetings, presents data and participates in discussions
  • Contributes to general laboratory maintenance and general reagent production as needed
  • Reads the literature and prepare for the lab work
