Job summary

Howard University is seeking a Laboratory Technician to provide research and administrative support for the PI’s laboratory. You will maintain fly stocks, assist with experiments, document results, and support training of students and staff.

The role emphasizes meticulous record-keeping, collaboration with faculty and students, and participation in lab maintenance and safety tasks. A bachelor’s degree in biology or related field is required; experience with Drosophila is preferred but not

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology or closely related field.
• Experience with Drosophila melanogaster (fruit flies) is not required but strongly preferred.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance of laboratory fly stocks
• Executing research experiments under the mentorship of the PI, documenting their research in a laboratory notebook
• Training students and new staff in routine laboratory techniques and protocols
• Presenting their work at lab meetings, local seminars, and local/national conferences
• Help organize lab consumables and ordering
• Contribute to routine lab maintenance tasks (e.g., autoclaving, cleaning)
• Performs other duties as assigned
