Job summary

Howard University is seeking a Laboratory Technician to provide research and administrative support for the PI’s laboratory. You will maintain fly stocks, assist with experiments, document results, and support training of students and staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or closely related field.
  • Experience with Drosophila melanogaster (fruit flies) is not required but strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of laboratory fly stocks
  • Executing research experiments under the mentorship of the PI, documenting their research in a laboratory notebook
  • Training students and new staff in routine laboratory techniques and protocols
  • Presenting their work at lab meetings, local seminars, and local/national conferences
  • Help organize lab consumables and ordering
  • Contribute to routine lab maintenance tasks (e.g., autoclaving, cleaning)
  • Performs other duties as assigned
