Job summary

Onterris is seeking a Sample Receiving Technician in our Wilmington, NC lab. You will ensure samples are documented and stored correctly, act as the first contact for client samples, and notify the Project Management Team of any discrepancies affecting timelines and accuracy.

The role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, a valid driver's license, and willingness to work weekends or overtime when needed; the compensation ranges from $18.00 to $20.00 hourly, depending on experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Some lab experience preferred.
• Valid state driver’s license required.
• Must pass drug screening.
• Proficient with computers and database software.
• Able to multi-task with effective oral and written communication.
• Able to work independently and make sound decisions.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Receive environmental samples into the lab per SOPs.
• Document and ship lab and office supplies, equipment, etc.
• Enter sample and test data into LIMS.
• Label samples, store properly, and inform relevant dept of issues.
• Prepare and ship bottle kits with preservatives.
• Prepare and ship air sampling media.
• Assist in sample management, archiving, and disposal.
• Assist in field sampling or pickups when needed.
• Coordinate daily field sampling/pickup schedule as needed.
• Participate in focus teams to improve efficiency.
• Work schedule may include Saturdays and overtime.

A Day in the Life

As a Sample Receiving Technician in our Wilmington, NC lab, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that samples received are documented and stored correctly. They are usually the first point of contact between the clients’ samples and the laboratory and, as such, are responsible for immediately notifying the Project Management Team of receipt, volume, preservation, labeling, or other discrepancies that could affect the laboratory’s ability to efficiently and profitably generate complete and accurate sample results on time while meeting the expectations of our clients and requirements of our accreditation programs.

The compensation range for this role is $18.00 to $20.00, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.

Schedule: Monday - Friday with occasional overtime

Your Expertise And Skills

• Receives environmental samples into the laboratory according to Enthalpy’s SOPs
• Receives and documents all shipments (lab and office supplies, equipment, etc.)
• Performs data entry of sample and test information into Laboratory Information System (LIMS)
• Label the sample containers, store them in appropriate locations and/or contact the proper department to inform them of short holding time and/or rush requests. Requires attention to detail while performing this task.
• Prepares and ships bottle kits (label bottles, add preservatives, etc.)
• Prepares and ships air sampling media
• Assists in sample management/archiving and disposal
• Assists in sample pickup or field sampling, if needed
• Assists in the coordination of daily field sampling/pickup schedule, if needed
• Participates in focus teams to improve efficiency
• Be flexible in work schedule including Saturdays and overtime when needed

Your Expertise And Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Some lab experience is preferred but not required
• Valid state issued driver’s license to drive company vehicles
• Must pass screen drug testing
• Proficient in computers and database software
• Able to multi-task and communicate effectively (both oral and written)
• Able to work independently and make sound decisions
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Work Environment And Physical Requirements

• Sitting, standing, and walking
• Lifting 50 pounds several times a day
• Overhead lifting of over 20 pounds
• Works in an office environment
• May be exposed to hot and cold environments
• May occasionally work shifts up to 12 hours in duration
