Adventist HealthCare Capital Choice Pathology Lab in Silver Spring, MD, seeks an experienced Laboratory Technician to support our mission of compassionate care through quality pathology services.

You will perform staining, slide handling, accessioning, tissue processing, and LIS proficiency in a 40-hour evening shift (3:00 PM–11:30 PM). The role offers competitive pay of $20.51–$27.21 hourly plus benefits.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in science or related field; BS/BA preferred.
• Education level may include additional experience per CLIA and CAP requirements.
• 1 year in a laboratory setting experience required.

Responsibilities

• Complete slide distribution and verify cases in LIS.
• Complete routine staining and maintain H&E stainer.
• Load/unload digital pathology imagers and assign cases.
• Perform special stains and ensure correct labeling on slides.
• Demonstrate quality control for daily work.
• Assist histotechnologists with blocks, slides, logs, and IHC stainers.
• Complete accessioning, gross descriptions, and print cassettes.
• Prepare Non-GYN specimens and other cytology duties as assigned.
• Perform tissue processing and maintain equipment.
• Participate in department performance improvement and education.
• Maintain competency and comply with safety policies.

Capital Choice Pathology Lab

Adventist HealthCare's Capital Choice Pathology Lab seeks to hire an experienced Laboratory Technician for our Silver Spring, MD location who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing.

As a Laboratory Technician you will:

• Complete slide distribution and verify cases in LIS.
• Complete routine staining to include maintenance of H&E stainer and cover slipper.
• Demonstrate the ability to load and unload digital pathology imagers, assign cases within program, and perform minor cleaning maintenance.
• Complete special stains to include loading and unloading of instrumentation and perform hand staining as needed. Stains smears and ensures labeling is correct on all slides.
• Demonstrate quality control for daily work.
• Assist histotechnologists by trimming and organizing blocks, racking slides, filing blocks and slides, printing process logs and organizing blocks and/or unstained slides, loading and unloading special and IHC stainers.
• Complete accession specimens, enter gross descriptions, and print cassettes.
• Prepare Non-GYN specimens (cell blocks and Thinpreps) and other cytology duties as assigned.
• Perform tissue processing to include organizing cassettes for selected protocols, loading and unloading racks, and perform maintenance as needed.
• Participate in department performance improvement and continuing education.
• Maintain competency and proficiency; Comply with safety and infection control policies.
• Utilize time, supplies, and other resources wisely.
• Demonstrate organizational and cleanliness skills.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the use of the LIS system and computer software.
• Always demonstrate a professional work ethic and promote laboratory compliance.
• Seek out and perform additional duties/tasks as needed in the laboratory.

Qualifications include:

• Associate Degree in science or related field. Bachelors Science degree (BS/BA) preferred

Employment Type: Full Time

Pay Range:
$20.51 - $27.21 If the salary range is listed as $0 or if the position is Per Diem (with a fixed rate), salary discussions will take place during the screening process.
