Base pay range

$27.95/hr - $38.44/hr

Primary job function is to work as part of a team to provide high quality, efficient and service oriented patient care while demonstrating the health center’s core values.The Laboratory Technician works in coordination with physicians, mid-level providers, behavioral health professionals, registered nurses and other support staff to deliver direct patient care services.Working under the supervision of the Nursing Manager, the Laboratory Technician is responsible for coordinating all laboratory functions. The Laboratory Technician is responsible for facilitating an efficient workflow in the laboratory and conveying a high level of customer service at all times. The Laboratory Technician is responsible for obtaining patient specimens, facilitating the electronic workflow within the health center and working with external laboratory vendors.

Essential Functions

Phlebotomy

• Responsible for the daily blood-drawing needs of the clinic, including the preparation and collection of blood, urine and pathology tests.
• Ensures accurate patient identification and labels samples accordingly.
• Utilizes various phlebotomy equipment and techniques to obtain quality specimens.
• Adheres to specimen requirements to ensure accurate testing.
• Performs and processes all specimen collections and tests in a timely and accurate manner. Testing includes but is not limited to urinalysis, pregnancy tests, strep tests, microbiology specimen preparation and Protime determinations. Accurately utilizes HemoCue and glucometers.
  
  

Clerical Duties

• Using the health center’s electronic health record and workflow processes, accurately document and transmit lab orders to the lab vendor.
• Responsible for monitoring lab queues and appropriately resolving simple issues.
• Acts as the liaison with the contracted lab regarding technical matters and refers all quality and administrative matters to the Nursing Manager
• Effectively uses computer equipment and laboratory instrumentation to process, locate and retrieve pertinent data and information.
  
  

Back Office Duties

• Keeps laboratory clean and stocked. Anticipates and responds to equipment and supply needs for all testing performed.
• Ensures calibration and quality testing of all equipment is completed.
• Responsible for monitoring and documenting lab refrigerator temperature.
• Assists with immunizations as requested.
  
  

Patient Relations

• Provides positive, supportive and caring behavior in all communications to clients, visitors, and staff.
• Adheres to the policies, procedures, and standards of Camino Health Center.
• Acts as Spanish-English translator between provider and client when needed. Interprets accurately and at a level appropriate for the client.
  
  

Minimum Position Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience / Training: 1+ years of experience working as a phlebotomist in a clinical or lab setting.
• License / Certification: Current State of California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I license and BLS certification.
