Laboratory Technician - Clinton, IA

Job Summary

The entry-level laboratory technician position is designed to train new technicians in one of the five (5) analytical labs within the quality control (QC) laboratory. Responsibilities include preparing process and/or finished product samples, performing analytical testing using instrumental and wet chemistry procedures, and recording results using computerized data systems. The technician must complete training on one lab before transitioning to Laboratory Technician II.

Requirements

• Willingness and ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime
• Sample preparation according to analytical procedures
• Operation of basic laboratory equipment such as balances, centrifuges, pipettes, pH meters
• Participation in training efforts and safety initiatives
• Accurate data collection and recording, following procedures and proper analytical techniques
• Reporting errors, unusual conditions, or events promptly
• Maintaining inventory of lab supplies and reagents
• Strong computer skills, including data entry and use of databases and MS Office
• Ability to follow complex technical instructions
• Sufficient math skills for lab calculations
• Maintaining cleanliness and housekeeping in work areas
• Adhering to safety policies to prevent injuries and hazards
• Reporting accidents or near misses immediately
• Accepting instruction, coaching, and constructive criticism for continuous improvement
• Performing other duties as assigned by management
• Ability to relocate equipment and supplies, stand for long periods, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 lbs

Desired Skills and Experience

• An Associate’s degree in science or equivalent experience preferred
• Previous experience with analytical testing
• Familiarity with GMP/GLP practices
• Understanding of wet chemistry techniques (pH, conductivity, oven moisture)
• Experience with lab instruments such as HPLC, GC, ICP, refractometers, protein analyzers, and IC is beneficial

Pay range: $32,500.00 - $59,000.00, depending on factors like experience and location. Overtime pay applies for qualifying hours.
