• Sets up, adjusts, and operates laboratory equipment.
• Performs physical and chemical tests safely and according to established procedures.
• Follows written or verbal procedures and instructions. Checks results against established specifications to meet company needs.
• Participates in the Company Lab QA/QC program to determine the consistency and accuracy of lab test procedures and techniques.
• Refers to tables and uses formulas to compute physical and chemical properties.
• Records and verifies all data, calculations, and results for accuracy in standard lab format.
• Reports irregularities in any analysis or results to appropriate personnel.
• Handles samples and chemicals safely and according to the Company Lab Procedures.
• Cleans lab equipment and work areas to ensure accurate, safe, and efficient laboratory functioning.
• Participates in the Company Lab training program.
• The work schedule is twelve (12) hour rotating night shifts, including working holidays, weekends, days, nights, overtime, and being on call as necessary.

This position is hourly nonexempt, eligible for overtime pay. The hourly rate is $37.42, reflecting Valero’s estimate of the compensation range at posting time. Actual pay depends on qualifications and experience.

Requirements

• Willing to work onsite at Valero Wilmington Refinery.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Preferred: Two years of college-level Chemistry and algebra-based Mathematics courses.
• Preferred: Three years of petroleum laboratory experience.
• Knowledge of ASTM, UOP, and Standard Methods for Examination of Petroleum and Asphalt products is preferred.
