Description

1. Sets up, adjusts, and operates laboratory equipment.
2. Performs physical and chemical tests safely and according to established procedures.
3. Follows written or verbal procedures and instructions. Checks results against established specifications to meet company needs.
4. Participates in the Company Lab QA/QC program to ensure consistency and accuracy of lab test procedures and techniques.
5. Refers to tables and uses formulas to compute physical and chemical properties.
6. Records and verifies all data, calculations, and results for accuracy in standard lab format.
7. Reports irregularities in any analysis or result to appropriate personnel.
8. Handles samples and chemicals safely and following the Company Lab Procedures.
9. Cleans lab equipment and work areas to ensure accurate, safe, and efficient lab functioning.
10. Participates in the Company Lab training program.
11. The work schedule is a twelve (12) hour rotating night shift, including working holidays, weekends, days, nights, overtime, and being on call as necessary.

This position is hourly nonexempt, eligible for overtime pay.

The hourly rate is $37.42, representing Valero’s good faith estimate of the compensation range at posting. Actual pay depends on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

• Willing and able to work on-site at the Valero Wilmington Refinery.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Preferred: Minimum two years of college-level Chemistry and algebra-based Mathematics courses.
• Preferred: Minimum three years of petroleum laboratory experience.
• Knowledge of ASTM, UOP, and Standard Methods for Examination of Petroleum and Asphalt Products is preferred.
