Job summary

Kelly Services is seeking an Asphalt Technician to join our quality lab team. You will provide asphalt testing support, collect data, and report results while ensuring safety and compliance with ASTM/AASHTO methods.

The role requires hands-on lab work and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Ideal candidates have a two-year technical degree or a high school diploma with 1–3 years of lab/manufacturing experience, plus proficiency with MS Office.

Qualifications

• Alternatively, high school diploma with 1–3 years lab/manufacturing experience.

• Mechanical hands-on aptitude; ability to lift 45 lbs; operate lab and maintenance equipment.

The Asphalt Technician actively participates in teams thatdeliver technical solutions having significant business impact on Asphalt andRoofing Business. This role contributes to the business’s success by providingtechnician support on new product, process, and input materials for Roofing andAsphalt related products.

Responsibilities

• Implement a personal safety action plan and review with leader.
• Demonstrates a commitment to safety
• Participate in regular safety meetings and safety huddles.
• Ensure rigorous compliance to standard safety procedures and OC corporate policies.
• Ensure a commitment to zero accidents while working with hot asphalt and various chemicals.
• Practice good housekeeping and maintenance habits.
• Provides various asphalt testing support
• Become proficient with all types of asphalt testing (e.g., rotational viscosity, penetration, flash testing, etc.) and maintain testing certification.
• Understand ASTM and/or AASHTO laboratory test methods and how to effectively test products accordingly.
• Will be responsible for data collection, analysis and reporting accurately and timely.
• Understand the different physical properties of different types of asphalts while troubleshooting results.
• Understand the different instruments and be able to troubleshoot each.
• Balance multiple assignments across individual or multiple projects.
• Able to safely adapt to challenging projects which are innovated and new to OC.
• Maintains a clean, safe and operational environment at all times.
• Provide team support with calibrations, preventative maintenance, housekeeping and inventory.

Education & Experience Requirements:

• A two year technical/lab/engineering/science associate degree with 1-3 years of experience in lab operations in lieu of a four year degree. OR
• A high school diploma with 1-3 years of experience in a lab and/or manufacturing operations in lieu of technical degree.
• Must understand and have good basic computer skills. A working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) required.
• Mechanical, hands‑on aptitude with maintaining and working on equipment is needed for working in the lab.
• Ability to lift at least 45lbs. and work in an elevated temperature environment.
• Ability to operate lab and maintenance equipment. Ability to provide quality test results in a timely manner and communicate those results to management both verbally and written.
• Ability to work both independently and within a group.
• Ability to analyze data and suggest and implement improvements in product testing. Improve the efficiency of operation.
• Ability to solve problems and think outside the box to innovate unique solutions for customer products and processes.
• Preference of a minimum of 2 years lab and/or manufacturing experience.
