Job Description The Research technician will be part of the Maize Transformation team within the Crop Transformation Systems in Biotechnology/Trait Discovery and Optimization.
Duties/Responsibilities Follow all standard operating procedures to generate quality transgenic and genome editing events to support trait discovery, trait optimization, and product development programs.
Crop transformation work involves preparing explants, performing transformation, sub-culturing tissue during the selection process, and regenerating tissue to produce high-quality transgenic or genome-edited plants.
Maintain accurate electronic and legal notebook records for all research work, summarize results, note areas for improvement, execute all lab work by following safety and ergonomic standards, and effectively organize daily workflow to meet specified timelines.
Exhibit great interpersonal/team communication skills, organizational skills, keen attention to detail, a can-do positive attitude, and the desire to work as a member of a team of scientists working to achieve common team goals.
Educational Qualifications Desired Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, plant science, agronomy, or equivalent amounts of relevant education preferred
Competencies and Experience Desired Great written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work as a member of a dynamic, diverse, and cross-functional team.
Strong computer skills, including experience using MS Office products.
Must be able to work effectively as an independent contributor to meet work demands and deadlines. Technical training will be provided.
General knowledge of plant biology, biotechnology, and/or experience with cell and tissue culture and plant transformation is highly desired, but not required
