Job summary

Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids is seeking a Technical Lead in the Laboratory to provide functional supervision and ensure quality control. The role directs tests, maintains instrument records, and develops procedures, while aligning with accreditation standards.

Candidates must have an associate degree or military training, 2+ years in a clinical lab, and certification by ASCP or AMT. The position offers a day shift, 40 hours weekly, with ongoing staff training and performance management.

Qualifications

Associate's degree or equivalent military/lab training required.
Completion of an approved US military medical laboratory program acceptable.
Laboratory training program completion may qualify.

Responsibilities

Communicate accurate information to patients, families, and co-workers at handoffs.
Ensure proper identification of patients and samples across testing phases.
Participate in continuing education annually.
Identify opportunities for process improvement.
Write, update, and validate laboratory procedures.
Ensure regulatory compliance (CAP, COLA, CLIA, DNV, FDA).
Serve as a resource for laboratory medicine information to providers.
Use LIS to access and enter data.
Educate and train new staff and students.
Provide leadership to technical staff and model professionalism.
Discuss disciplinary actions with Lab Manager as needed.
Submit and review proficiency testing and coordinate corrective actions.
Maintain bench competencies with 25% bench time; weekend/holiday rotation.
