Job summary

Luminary Genetics is seeking a Laboratory Tech to join our San Jose, California team. You will assist with sample receiving, perform DNA amplification and NGS testing, and compile patient results into reports.

The role requires a BS in Biology, at least 1 year in a lab, proficiency with office software, and a commitment to HIPAA and safety standards. The schedule is Tue-Sat, 9:00 AM–5:30 PM PT, with a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or relevant field required; lab degree and/or work experience preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in laboratory setting.
  • Computer proficiency required; Familiarity with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with sample receiving and specimen verification.
  • Perform DNA amplification and NGS testing.
  • Analyze NGS data for chromosomal abnormalities and compile patient reports.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment under supervision of lab manager.
  • Adhere to SOPs and regulatory standards; follow QA/QC programs.
  • Ensure safety policies are observed and protocols followed.
  • Troubleshoot protocol and equipment malfunctions under supervision.
  • Learn all aspects of PGT-A/PGT-SR testing and related workflows.

Opportunity Overview

We have an immediate opening for aLaboratory Tech to join our team at Luminary Geneticsin San Jose, California.

  • Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday, from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM Pacific Time
  • Compensation: $27 per hour (commensurate with experience)

This role provides the opportunity to grow within a nationally respected organization while remaining closely connected to the patients and teams you support every day.

How You’ll Contribute

In this role, theLaboratory Tech will:

  • Assist with sample receiving and specimen verification
  • Perform DNA amplification and NGS testing
  • Analyze NGS data for chromosomal abnormalities and accurately compile patient results into report summaries
  • Maintain laboratory equipment under the supervision of the laboratory manager
  • Complete regular cleaning and stocking of laboratory
  • Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements and standards for the laboratory
  • Follow quality assurance and quality control programs
  • Observe all laboratory safety policies
  • Troubleshoot protocol and equipment malfunctions under the direction of laboratory manager
  • Handling blood-borne pathogens and general laboratory reagents
  • Be responsible for learning all aspects of PGT-A/PGT-SR testing
  • Sample receiving, amplification, library preparation, sequencing, and reporting
  • This position requires high attention to detail and the ability to accurately follow protocols

Qualifications and Skills Include:
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Biology or relevant field required. Lab degree and/or work experience preferred
  • Minimum 1 year experience in laboratory setting
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn at all times
  • Excellent multi-tasking abilities
  • Ability to make timely, accurate, and legible records
  • Ability to follow detailed protocols with a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to perform benchwork 75-100% of the time
  • Ability to adhere to requirements of HIPAA and other ethical standards with respect to patient-specific information
  • Ability to observe the safety practices and protocols common to all laboratory activities and those specific to a genetics laboratory
  • Working knowledge of Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to multi-task, be self-motivated, and to work independently to meet deadlines
  • Possession of a high attention to detail, with low technical and clerical error rates
