Job Summary

The Laboratory Supervisor – Molecular is responsible for the daily supervision of molecular laboratory personnel and operations to ensure high-quality testing and timely reporting. This role involves oversight of workflow, staffing, regulatory compliance, quality control, and performance management. The Supervisor provides critical support to the Laboratory Director and collaborates with the Laboratory Manager to uphold laboratory standards and facilitate continuous improvement.

Technical Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct the performance of molecular laboratory staff.
  • Recommend and implement updates to laboratory protocols, operating procedures, and workflow processes.
  • Propose and lead the implementation of new testing platforms, validation studies, and methodological changes.
  • Monitor quality control (QC) trends and initiate corrective actions as needed.
  • Follow up with senior technologists on instrument maintenance and operational issues affecting workflow.
  • Manage reagent and QC inventory to ensure availability and compliance with usage protocols.
  • Oversee laboratory workflow and ensure adherence to established turnaround times.
  • Lead validations for new test methods, instrumentation, and reagents.
  • Submit and monitor IT helpdesk tickets and ensure resolution of issues, including review of alert lists and appropriate follow-up.
  • Provide high-level troubleshooting and technical problem resolution.
  • Supervise reagent preparation, storage, and handling in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and quality assurance guidelines.
  • Support the Laboratory Director with special projects and initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Monitor and track training and competency assessments for laboratory personnel.
  • Maintain and update departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Oversee departmental staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure quality and regulatory compliance in all technical procedures and documentation.
Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Responsibilities
  • Attend all mandatory safety training sessions.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal safety policies and procedures.
  • Promote and enforce a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Oversee departmental compliance with EHS protocols.
We Require:
  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • ASCP certification preferred.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Must hold current licensure as required by New York State DOH.
