Job summary

LifeShare Blood Center in Shreveport, LA is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to oversee the Scientific Services laboratory, coordinating workflow and ensuring quality procedures across basic to advanced tests.

You will manage staff, training, safety, and documentation, maintain SOPs, and ensure CLIA/FDA/AABB compliance while meeting budget and operational goals. Candidates must hold MT/MLS (ASCP) and CLP licensure, with 5+ years in blood bank or molecular testing; MB/SBB preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field or equivalent work experience.
• MT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP) certification required.
• Current CLP licensure or license eligible by LA Board of Medical Examiners.
• MB or SBB certification with 5+ years in blood bank/molecular testing preferred.
• Working knowledge of reference laboratory testing, blood groups and antibody identification.
• Familiarity with AABB standards, CLIA and FDA regulations, OSHA and cGMP for lab ops.
• Proficiency with lab equipment operation and maintenance.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient/donor information at all times.
• Demonstrate composure and effective communication under stress.
• Dependable, punctual with strong professional demeanor.
• Commitment to safety and adherence to SOPs.

Responsibilities

• Ensures staffing levels and schedules meet operational goals; approves timesheets and time-off requests.
• Manages personnel actions including interviews, coaching, performance reviews and corrective action.
• Provides training and continuing education; mentors staff and leads departmental meetings.
• Ensures donor/patient tests follow written reference procedures and documents results.
• Performs serological/molecular/hematology testing; records results and reports.
• Analyzes immunohematological problems and communicates findings to appropriate facilities.
• Troubleshoots test deviations, equipment issues and QC results; reports corrective actions.
• Oversees QC procedures and proficiency testing; maintains QA documentation.
• Coordinates workflow for special projects, clinical trials and assay development; maintains IRB processes.
• Maintains budget awareness and assists in departmental budgeting.
• Maintains supplies and preventive maintenance of lab equipment.
• Develops, reviews and manages SOPs and laboratory records.
• Ensures safety practices and reporting of accidents; protects confidentiality.
