Job summary

UnityPoint Health is seeking a Director to oversee laboratory services across markets. This role leads clinical departments, ensures quality and safety, and partners with enterprise leadership to drive growth and patient-centered services.

The Director will supervise managers and staff, oversee program implementation, and align operations with accreditation and system standards. Strong leadership and strategic collaboration are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Education: Master’s degree in healthcare or related field preferred; Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field required.
• Licenses/Certifications: Phlebotomy certification, Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP), Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) preferred.
• English: must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
• Other: must operate laboratory, analytical, processing, and PC equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead market team and act as subject matter expert to develop partnerships with staff, leaders, and external partners.
• Provide direction, supervision, and support; delegate appropriately and conduct annual performance appraisals.
• Oversee recruitment, supervision, and retention of staff; ensure onsite presence for multi-market Directors.
• Develop and monitor department policies, procedures, and job descriptions.
• Drive quality initiatives, ensure regulatory/compliance adherence, and improve patient safety and outcomes.
• Develop annual budget and monitor resources across markets; implement strategic goals across the system.
