Job summary

The University of Chicago is seeking a Laboratory Safety Specialist (LSS) in the Provost Office of Research Safety to lead safety compliance across departments. You will provide technical guidance, training, and risk analysis to maintain a safe research environment and support university-wide safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher degree in a related field.
• 2–5 years of related work experience.
• Driver's License valid in multiple states.
• Ability to interpret EH&S standards and implement programs.

Responsibilities

• Serve as single point of contact for departments, PIs, and research teams on safety issues.
• Conduct risk analyses and inspections in laboratories to ensure compliance.
• Develop systems for maintaining chemical inventories and records.
• Assist with IBC and IACUC protocols with ORS and Animal Resource Center.
• Coordinate laboratory safety inspections with ORS staff and ensure follow-up actions.
• Deliver orientation trainings to PIs and monitor training compliance.
• Monitor compliance and provide data for regulatory inspections.
• Participate in emergency response as needed.
