Job summary

The University of Chicago is seeking an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to join Environmental Health and Safety. This role reports to senior EH&S leadership and supports Facilities Services Operations with safety programs, risk assessments, and training across campus and affiliates.

You will lead safety initiatives, coordinate with multiple units, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards while maintaining a proactive safety culture.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
• Driver's license - preferred; certifications like OSHA or IH are a plus.
• Ability to develop and deliver safety training and conduct risk assessments.
• Experience in higher education or large complex organizations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develops, implements, and supports occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
• Interprets internal or external issues and recommends best practices.
• Manages work scheduling and leads cross-functional teams on risk matrices.
• Delivers safety training and evaluates construction/renovation safety impacts.
• Collaborates with EH&S team to deploy complex initiatives aligned with goals.
