Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a Laboratory Safety Manager to lead the Laboratory Safety Unit and promote rigorous safety practices across research and clinical laboratories. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field with 10 years of relevant experience.
• Master's degree in related field preferred.
• Five years of experience in chemical engineering, industrial hygiene required.

Responsibilities

• Directs and oversees the Laboratory Safety Unit staff.
• Reviews written programs to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Assists in application of Chematix for chemical inventories, inspections, and hazardous waste modules.
• Directs and conducts chemical monitoring for anesthetic gases, formaldehyde, methylene chloride, benzene, xylene, and other substances of concern.
• Develops, updates, and ensures access to laboratory safety training in the LMS.
• Assists with spill-response management and emergency readiness.
• Reviews UCAR protocols for chemical hazards.
• Participates in safety committees and special projects.
