Med-Ophthalmology
A Research Tech II position is available in the Rossi lab of the University of Pittsburgh, Ophthalmology Department. The translational research that they will participate in will be focused on deploying advanced retinal imaging technologies, including adaptive optics, fluorescence lifetime, and laser doppler ophthalmoscopy to study patients with ophthalmic diseases including age-related macular degeneration, uveitis and central serous chorioretinopathy.
A BS in biology, neuroscience, physics or a related field is required. Additionally, a minimum of 1 year of experience with retinal imaging of patients is required. Experience with adaptive optics ophthalmoscopy is preferred. They must also have experience using custom and commercial image processing and illustration software, including experience with Matlab, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and ImageJ. They must also be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
Essential Functions
The Research Technician will be responsible for coordinating research imaging activities with our clinical collaborators and will serve as a bridge between our clinical and research operations. The research technician will work closely with the clinical coordinators and our collaborating ophthalmologists to recruit patients from the clinics for participation in research studies. The research technician will be responsible for acquiring retinal images from clinical and research systems, analyze results, and will present results at meetings. The research technician will work closely with the other members of the Rossi lab team to ensure that the research equipment is maintained. They will also be responsible for managing the data, ensuring that data is backed up and archived appropriately. They may also contribute to the writing and editing of manuscripts.
