Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a path support technician in Arkansas to assist with surgical pathology workflow, morgue operations, and specimen processing. The role involves accessioning, labeling, gross descriptions, autopsy prep, and cryostat maintenance.

Qualified candidates will have an associate degree or 60 credits with medical technology courses, and be able to work weekends/on-call. TB screening and background checks are required.

Responsibilities

• Assess specimen and order acceptability per department policies.
• Accession specimens for Surgical Pathology.
• Label specimens and add formalin when appropriate.
• Dictate gross descriptions for GI, GYN, prostate, kidney, liver, bone marrow, and surgical devices.
• Ink and cut breasts per breast protocols.
• Perform and assist with specimen and frozen section preparation.
• Receive and release bodies to ARORA, Coroner’s office, Crime lab, and funeral homes.
• Maintain morgue paperwork and ensure accuracy.
• Keep morgue/cryostat areas clean and safe; perform preventive maintenance.
• Record temperatures, restock supplies, and maintain a safe work environment.
• Perform other duties as needed.

Job description

• Assess specimen and order acceptability according to departmental policies and procedures


• Accession all specimens received for Surgical Pathology


• Label specimens correctly and add formalin when appropriate


• Dictate gross descriptions of GI, GYN, prostate, kidney, liver, bone marrows, and surgical devices


• Ink and cut breasts according to appropriate breast protocols


• Perform and assist with specimen and frozen section preparation


• Receive and release bodies in the morgue to ARORA, Coroner’s office, Crime lab, and funeral homes


• Ensure morgue paperwork is complete and correct


• Maintain cleanliness and set up autopsies in the morgue


• Clean cryostats daily with appropriate reagents


• Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot laboratory equipment


• Ensure cassettes are added to Histology processors with appropriate date and end time


• Perform general lab duties, including recording temperatures, restocking supplies, and maintaining a safe, organized work environment


• Perform other duties as needed

Requirements

• Associates degree in laboratory science, medical laboratory technology degree - OR - 60 credit hours obtained from an accredited institution including 24 credit hours in Medical Technology or Science Courses, including 6 credit hours of Biology and 6 credit hours of Chemistry
