  • Supervision of student staff safety information and instructions; may assist with hiring and timecard approvals.
  • Assisting with administrative duties to support the BIOL lab program including monitoring a Biology Lab email account and coordinating with other departments.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent

Position Summary: This is a position as a Laboratory Prep Manager to support the instructional biology instructional laboratories. The position will be responsible for management of the general prep room in support of all laboratory courses in the BIOL Lab Program. This includes but is not limited to the preparation of materials and supplies for multiple laboratory sections, setting up and breaking down laboratory materials, ordering, preparing, and culturing laboratory materials, working with UGA greenhouses and other departments, and maintaining laboratory prep notes. UGA HazMat and Chemical Right to Know training upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies: Broad background in standard laboratory safety and procedures.

Physical Demands: Sometimes heavy lifting of lab equipment, working with chemicals, significant standing and walking.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Preparation of materials and supplies for the introductory biology laboratories including planning, scheduling, and placing orders; culturing, collecting, and preparing materials; keeping detailed prep notes with updates of changes. (35%)
  • Primary Lab staff member whosets up and breaks down the introductory teaching laboratories each week. (35%)
  • Maintenance of records and documentation associated with the teaching laboratory classrooms including records of safety data sheets for chemical use and hazardous waste management, cleaning and maintaining equipment (microscopes, spectrophotometers, pipets, etc.), arranging professional service for instruments to be cleaned and calibrated as required, and trouble-shooting equipment/supply issues (10%)
  • Providing supervision of and safety information and instructions for student staff. May assist with process of hiring and timecard approval of student staff. (15%)
  • Assisting with administrative duties as needed to support the BIOL lab program including monitoring a Biology Lab UGA email account, assisting with the Division graduation, attending to requests from other UGA faculty/departments as well as initiatives of existing community outreach programs. (5%)
