Description:Responsible for performing phlebotomy and various technical, non-technical, and clerical functions.Performs venipuncture collections accurately and efficiently according to laboratory protocols.Performs capillary collections accurately and efficiently according to laboratory protocols.Follows proper protocols for legal blood alcohol collections.Determines appropriate specimen requirements using standard collection techniques.Evaluates acceptability of specimens collected and follows proper identification through the entire process.Obtains blood specimens via indwelling lines following universal safety precautions.Performs limited CLIA waived testing according to laboratory protocols as defined by site assignment.Utilizes the laboratory information system and electronic medical record efficiently to support laboratory services.Performs entry and/or release of laboratory orders.Follows site-specific procedures for registration and/or check-in of patients.Resolves sample ID and/or order problems.Contacts patients for repeat draws as needed.Recognizes specimen requirements and performs specimen collection and handling in accordance with verbal and/or written instructions.Prioritizes specimen collections appropriately.Responds to blood draw requests in a timely manner as ordered.Identifies patient and labels samples according to laboratory protocols.Processes specimens according to individual testing protocol, using extreme caution and control over the identification process.Prepares specimens for transport to alternate testing laboratory sites.Performs EKGs, monitoring events, drug screen collection, breath alcohol testing, and spirometry as defined by site assignment.Sets up cultures as per laboratory protocol as defined by site assignment.Maintains a clean, organized, and functional work area.Stocks supplies as needed and monitors expiration dates as applicable.Assists in training new employees and students in phlebotomy techniques and other assigned duties.Performs maintenance duties in an accurate and timely manner.Performs scheduled checklist duties as assigned.
