Cynet HealthStaff is seeking a Lab Assistant for a 13-week assignment in a clinical laboratory. The role requires a Certified Phlebotomy Technician license, high school education or GED, with an associates/technical degree preferred.

The Lab Assistant will organize the phlebotomy and processing area, ensure safety and privacy, obtain blood specimens, process specimens, and support staff while adhering to regulations and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience preferred.

  • Receives, labels, and processes specimens; enters LIS data.

Description:Organizes and coordinates the overall operation of the clinical laboratory phlebotomy and processing area.Directs, implements, and updates policies, procedures, and protocols to streamline workflow.Improves efficiency and strengthens bloodborne pathogen protection and safety measures.Ensures the timely delivery of accurate phlebotomy procedures.Serves as the liaison between phlebotomy and laboratory staff, physicians, patients, and other hospital staff.Adheres to all local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures.Delivers optimal patient care while ensuring privacy and safety.Obtains blood specimens by venipuncture or skin puncture per established policy and procedure.Receives and prepares various types of body fluids for testing following established procedures.Completes specimen accessioning activities, including receiving, sorting, labeling, and processing specimens.Enters information into the Laboratory Information System.Processes specimens, including mixing and centrifugation, maintaining specimen integrity and quality.Assesses specimen conditions and obtains assistance regarding proper storage.Stores, directs, and disposes of patient specimens according to established procedures.Prints reports and follows up on discrepancies to ensure all specimens are accounted for.Ensures completion of routine and priority tasks within established departmental time frames.Assesses and monitors laboratory workload, adjusts assignments, and provides assistance as needed.Ensures completion of emergency and triage tasks within established departmental time frames.Mentors students and new staff, fostering a constructive learning environment.Participates in laboratory quality improvement processes, including updating safety and procedure manuals.Maintains a clean, safe working environment and disinfects equipment after each procedure.Maintains strict confidentiality of all patient protected health information.Receives incoming calls for the laboratory, assisting callers or transferring them as appropriate.Performs general non-technical tasks, such as sorting reports and distributing department mail.Inventories and orders laboratory supplies, maintaining appropriate stock levels.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
