Job summary

The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard seeks a Laboratory Specialist I to coordinate operational activities supporting the Cancer Program's scientific projects. The role involves working with a large team of researchers in genomics, cancer biology, and drug discovery, and collaborating with administrative staff to keep labs compliant with policies and protocols.

Ideal candidates will have a foundational scientific knowledge, hands-on laboratory operations experience, and strong customer service,

Qualifications

  • BS or BA in a related scientific field with 0+ years of experience.
  • Experience working in research laboratories and familiarity with standard laboratory operational procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in this collaborative work environment.
  • Foundational understanding of research techniques performed in the relevant laboratories.
  • High level of initiative and motivation; ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Ability to think creatively to propose and implement solutions.
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the Cancer Program’s equipment inventory and detailed records of all events.
  • Coordinate and/or execute equipment maintenance or repairs with stakeholders.
  • Organize lab operations tasks, including EH&S inspections and routine maintenance.
  • Assist with receiving and distribution of external packages and notify end users.
  • Promote a safety culture and ensure compliance with EH&S policies.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying gaps and implementing solutions.
  • Assist lab personnel with operational readiness and proper equipment care.
  • Respond to lab tickets and equipment alarms with thorough documentation.
  • Assist with other laboratory operational duties as needed.
