Job summary

Mayo Clinic Laboratories is seeking a nonexempt staff member in Rochester, MN to support pre-analytic and clerical laboratory tasks. You will assist in workflow, manage inventory, and participate in staff training, with emphasis on accuracy and patient safety.

The role requires an Associate’s degree or a high school diploma with relevant experience, and offers opportunities for development within Mayo Clinic’s renowned labs. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree OR high school diploma with 2 years relevant lab or office experience.
• Health/science degree preferred.
• Computers, keyboarding, telephone operations, and office equipment experience.
• Able to read specimen labels and work with numbers to prevent mislabeling.
• Organized, able to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to work in a team.
• Willing to accommodate scheduling adjustments, holidays, weekends.
• Adhere to safety requirements for handling chemicals, reagents and infectious agents.
• Resume must be attached; internal applicants should provide performance appraisals.

Responsibilities

• Assist and work with management in duties of the work unit.
• Facilitate workflow by performing clerical/processing duties: inventory, filing, stocking and rotating inventory.
• Involved in training and continuing education of staff.
• Perform pre-analytic specimen processing and operate lab and office equipment; enter orders into the system; respond to calls for testing information.
• Ensure correct patient identification and documentation; resolve pre-analytic issues.
• Support the laboratory team; may perform reagent preparation, manage inventory and operate automated systems.
