Job summary

The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a Laboratory Microbiologist II to perform complex laboratory testing in BSL-2 and BSL-3 environments. Qualifications

Laboratory Microbiologist II, Bureau of the Public Health Laboratory

Join to apply for the Laboratory Microbiologist II, Bureau of the Public Health Laboratory role at NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

This position involves performing high and moderate complexity laboratory testing on clinical and environmental specimens, using manual and automated methods within BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories. Responsibilities include maintaining laboratory supplies, participating in cross-training, assisting with specimen shipping, and ensuring quality control and assurance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree in biological, chemical, or physical sciences or medical technology, plus one year of relevant microbiology experience, or
  • Associate degree in medical technology or 60 college credits with relevant coursework, plus three years of microbiology experience, or
  • High school diploma with additional college education and experience to total five years, including at least one year of microbiology experience.

Preferred Skills: Experience in clinical or environmental diagnostic testing, eligibility for NY State Clinical Technologist license.

Additional Requirements: NYC residency within 90 days of appointment, documentation for interview, and eligibility for federal and state loan forgiveness programs.

Salary Range: $62,253.00 – $66,712.00 annually.
