Job summary

Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego seeks an experienced Laboratory Manager to oversee day-to-day lab operations, participate in committee work, and drive performance improvements. This role requires strong leadership, budgeting, and regulatory oversight, including CAP and Joint Commission readiness.

The manager will supervise lab staff and collaborate with multi-disciplinary leaders to uphold high-quality care. Eligible for incentives; weekend support may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree plus 5 years experience in a laboratory, at least 1 in leadership.
• CLS certification.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Experience in Lab Leadership within a hospital lab setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego.
• Participate in system committees regarding laboratory services and improvements.
• Conduct performance evaluations and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Oversee CAP inspections and Joint Commission preparation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary leaders and manage staffing and budgeting.
• Directly supervise all lab supervisors and leads.

Scripps Mercy Hospital has served central and downtown San Diego since 1890 and is the oldest medical center in the county. The San Diego campus is located near the corner of 5th Avenue and Washington Street in Hillcrest.

Scripps Mercy Hospital consists of two campuses in San Diego and Chula Vista.

Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego’s campus includes the O’Toole Breast Care Center, a 24-hour emergency room that is a Level I Trauma Center, outpatient physical rehabilitation, minimally invasive robotic surgery and our childbirth unit (including a Level II neonatal intensive care unit).

This is a full time, salaried position primarily Monday-Friday with the flexibility to support operational needs on weekends as needed. Located at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest. Eligible for the Management Incentive Compensation Plan (MICP). Retention and relocation incentives included for eligible new hires.

As Laboratory Manager, you will be responsible for day-to-day laboratory operations at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego. Additionally, you will participate in system committees regarding laboratory services and improvements. Other duties include conducting performance evaluations, overseeing regulatory requirements, CAP inspection and Joint Commission preparation, collaborating with multi-disciplinary leaders, performance improvement metrics, staffing and budgeting. The Laboratory Manager will directly oversee all lab supervisors and leads. This position is ideal for an experienced CLS who thrives under pressure and is looking to make a difference.

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills

• Bachelor's degree plus 5 years experience in a laboratory, at least 1 of which in leadership

Position Pay Range: $69.23-$100.38/hour
