Laboratory Manager

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Clinical Biochemistry, or a related biomedical field. Two (2) years of full-time clinical and translational laboratory experience as a research scientist in a lab with mentoring experience. Experience in Clinical and Molecular Diagnostics (e.g., DNA/RNA extraction (Blood and Tissue), cDNA synthesis, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Electrophoresis and PAGE, Microscopy), Bioinformatics, Cell Culture and/or Animal models.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Clinical Biochemistry, or a related biomedical field. Experience working in a laboratory environment.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Laboratory Manager serves as the operational, administrative, and technical lead for the Plastics Division in the Department of Surgery . Reporting to the Principal Investigator and Division Leadership, the incumbent oversees daily core operations, biosafety compliance, high-throughput instrumentation, and personnel supervision. The Laboratory Manager bridges clinical diagnostics and advanced translational research models, oversees complex rodent colony management, directs academic training for undergraduate and graduate research personnel, and contributes directly to grant proposals, biosafety workshops, and peer-reviewed scientific publications.

Duties:

  • Direct day-to-day administrative and technical operations of the research facilities, enforcing adherence to institutional safety guidelines, biosafety standards, and clinical quality control frameworks.
  • Manage procurement, chemical inventories, grant budgets, vendor relations, and maintenance/calibration of high precision scientific equipment.
  • Assist Principal Investigators in designing research proposals, generating pilot data, and standardizing experimental protocols.
  • Author and co-author peer-reviewed research papers, book chapters, and sequence submissions to internal and international databases.
  • Prepare and present poster presentations at regional and national research conferences.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate undergraduate and graduate students in the lab.
  • Other duties as assigned.
