Job summary

UNC Health, located in Chapel Hill, seeks a Laboratory Genetic Counseling Assistant to support CGCs in a laboratory setting. You will review test requisitions, track status, and coordinate with reference labs to ensure accurate, compliant genetic testing workflows.

In this role, you will maintain databases, draft materials under CGC supervision, and contribute to quality initiatives while communicating with providers about results and updates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Genetics, Biology, Health Science, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of genetic terminology and knowledge of laboratory workflows.
• Detail-oriented with good organizational skills and data entry proficiency.
• Experience in laboratory or healthcare environments is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Review test requisitions, order forms, and documentation for completeness and accuracy.
• Track test status and communicate results or additional needs with providers.
• Coordinate with reference laboratories for send-out testing and testing guidance.
• Support data collection and reporting for lab service performance and case tracking.
• Assist CGCs with tracking test utilization and quality assurance initiatives.
• Draft educational materials under CGC supervision.
• Update internal reference materials and testing requirements.
