Job summary

UNC Health Care in Chapel Hill, NC seeks a Laboratory GC Assistant to provide technical and administrative support to Certified Genetic Counselors in a laboratory setting. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Genetics, Biology, Health Science, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of genetic terminology and knowledge of laboratory workflows.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Proficiency in data entry and basic database tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Experience in laboratory or healthcare environments preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Review test requisitions, order forms, and documentation for completeness and accuracy.
• Track test status and communicate results or documentation needs with providers.
• Coordinate with reference laboratories for send-out testing and order clarification.
• Monitor testing workflows and utilization; escalate complex or duplicative tests.
• Maintain test information databases and related documentation systems.
• Draft lab staff educational materials under CGC supervision.
• Facilitate routine communication with providers regarding test results or procedural updates.
• Support data collection and reporting for lab service performance.
