Job summary

Alaska Regional Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join our Laboratory team in Anchorage. You will be integral in handling specimens, performing venipuncture, and supporting patient care with compassion.

The role involves processing specimens for testing, verifying orders, training new staff, and maintaining records. Certification in phlebotomy is preferred; high school diploma required; strong communication and computer skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Certification in phlebotomy is preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent communication skills and basic computer/clerical abilities.
• Experience in phlebotomy or specimen receiving preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide courteous and caring customer service and support to patients, family members, physicians, and their office staff.
• Obtain specimens through venipuncture and capillary collection techniques, and process those and other specimens for testing.
• Process reference lab specimens for shipment with quality and acceptable turn-around-times.
• Verify documentation on incoming orders and maintain necessary logs.
• Transcribe written orders for outpatient specimens and ensure test results are sent to the ordering physician.
• Train new employees and others in specimen receiving duties and responsibilities.
