Job summary

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine seeks a Laboratory Assistant to provide foundational laboratory support in a research setting at NMRC. The role involves assisting with equipment preparation, reagents, and materials for tests and experiments.

You will maintain laboratory equipment, document observations, follow SOPs and QA/QC guidelines, and ensure proper handling of specimens and glassware. A background check is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; college level science coursework preferred.
  • 0-2 years of experience recommended or required.
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and general lab safety protocols.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain quality control per SOPs.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in preparing equipment and materials for testing, assays, and experiments.
  • Prepares reagents, solutions, and culture media per SOPs.
  • Maintains and handles laboratory specimens, slides, models, supplies, and glassware.
  • Maintains and calibrates laboratory equipment and performs routine maintenance.

Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a Laboratory Assistant who provides laboratory support duties. Work involves performance of a variety of laboratory tasks of minimal complexity to assist in the maintenance and operation of a research or analytical laboratory. Performs work in compliance with and according to established guidelines and quality control standards. This is the first level in the laboratory series.

This position will be in support of the Enteric Diseases Division within the Military Relevant Bacterial Diseases Department (MRBD) within the Infectious Diseases Directorate at the Naval Medical Research Command (NMRC).

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

  • Assists in preparing equipment and in materials for testing, assays, and experiments.
  • Prepares reagents, solutions, and culture media in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Maintains and provides custodial care for laboratory specimens, slides, models, supplies, and glassware.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment and performs general monitoring, calibration, and maintenance.
  • Documents tasks and records observations in accordance with good practice quality guidelines and regulations (GxP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and protocol requirements.
  • Adheres to laboratory quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) plans and procedures.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Highschool diploma or GED required. College level science classwork preferred.
  • Minimum of 0-2 experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and general lab safety protocols.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.
Physical Capabilities
  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
Work Environment
  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
Compensation
  • The hourly pay range for this position is $16.83-$20.00 per hour. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
