HJF is seeking a Laboratory Assistant who provides laboratory support duties. Work involves performance of a variety of laboratory tasks of minimal complexity to assist in the maintenance and operation of a research or analytical laboratory. Performs work in compliance with and according to established guidelines and quality control standards. This is the first level in the laboratory series.

This position will be in support of Uniformed Service University of Health Sciences (USUHS)/Infectious Disease Clinical Research Program (IDCRP). This project requires biospecimen inventory of human sera, plasma, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), and other potentially infectious materials (OPIM), for the purpose of overall specimen reduction along with detailed data entry for future transfer to other identified external academic and government biorepositories.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

  • Performs accurate specimen inventory across multiple research studies and specimen types.
  • Performs data entry in accurate, timely, and efficient manner. Maintains clear and accurate data collection records and inventories in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices.
  • Prepares and packages biological specimens for shipment to external facilities, as required. Ensures shipping and specimen documentation requirements align with International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) Title 49 CFR current guidelines.
  • Follows instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintains temperature of ultra-low freezers and LN2 cryovats as detailed in standard operating procedures.
  • Maintains supplies in the laboratory and ensures proper cleanliness and sanitation in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices.
    Creates, collects, disseminates, and maintains appropriate study data.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Education and Experience
  • High school Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 0-2 experience required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust background check.
Physical Capabilities
  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods
Work Environment
  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
Compensation
  • The hourly pay range for this position is $16.83-$20.00. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
