The Lab Assistant I role entails general laboratory duties, specimen collection, order entry and pre-analytic processing, with potential patient and specimen registration responsibilities.

The position is PRN with daytime shifts at West Hospital in Avon, IN, and requires a high school diploma or GED, plus phlebotomy training or related coursework.

Qualifications

• Requires HS grad or GED Equivalent.
• Completion of a phlebotomy training program with experience in laboratory or coursework in biological, chemical or related science preferred.
• May require an Indiana driver’s license and clean driving history.
• Knowledge of Indiana traffic laws may be required.
• Basic computer skills are required.
• Telephone skills are required.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
• Possibility to serve on committees or projects supporting department goals.

Responsibilities

• Provides general laboratory services including specimen collection and order entry.
• Performs blood component preparation and pre-analytic processing of specimens.
• Performs related clerical tasks and may assist with patient and specimen registration.
• Delivers specimens as needed and supports department operations.
