Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Phlebotomist/Specimen Processor for the West/North Hospital on a full-time days float shift (9:45a–6:15p, every 3rd weekend). The role involves specimen collection, order entry, blood component preparation, and processing of specimens 24/7, with a focus on accuracy and patient service.

The ideal candidate has a high school education and completed a phlebotomy training program, with solid computer and telephone skills and the ability to work well in a team.

Qualifications

  • Requires HS grad or GED Equivalent.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program with experience in laboratory or coursework in biological, chemical or related science preferred.
  • May require a valid Indiana Operators license and a good driving history for the last three years.
  • May require an understanding of the traffic laws in the State of Indiana.
  • Requires proven understanding of computers.
  • Requires telephone skills.
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member.
  • Requires ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specimen collection using routine venipuncture.
  • Handle order entry and blood component preparation.
  • Manage specimen receipt and waived testing.
  • Engage in pre-analytic processing of specimens.
  • Perform related clerical tasks such as entering orders, confirming validity, answering phones and managing faxes.
  • Possibly responsible for patient and specimen registration and delivery of specimens.

SHIFT: Full Time Days- Float position - 9:45a to 6:15p every 3rd weekend LOCATION: West/North Hospital, as needed The laboratories of IU Health offer some of the most comprehensive laboratory services in Indiana! Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the laboratories perform more than 19 million tests a year. In addition to IU Health, laboratory testing services are provided to hospitals and physicians across the country. The Phlebotomist/Specimen Processor provides general laboratory services including specimen collection using routine venipuncture, order entry, blood component preparation, specimen receipt, waived testing, pre-analytic processing of specimens as well as related clerical tasks such as entering orders into the system, confirming validity of each specimen, answering phone calls, and managing faxes. The incumbent may be responsible for patient and specimen registration and delivery of specimens. The ideal incumbent will possess strong customer service skills, focus on attention to detail, have strong organizational skills, have basic computer skills, and be highly compassionate.
