Job description

Summary:

Accurately evaluates specimen orders and enters clinical data/information into various computer systems (e.g., order entry, patient demographics, results). Identifies missing or invalid data and takes corrective action. Operates automated and semi-automated equipment according to standard procedures. Communicates supply deficiencies to relevant personnel, including issues related to specimens, paperwork, database information, and equipment.

Responsibilities:

1. Meet expectations of applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
2. Accurately document information, including processing logs, quality control, and reagent labeling.
3. Clean, sanitize, and maintain laboratory equipment and glassware.
4. Maintain and distribute laboratory supplies.
5. Package laboratory biohazard waste for disposal following established standards.
6. Maintain laboratory coat supplies.
7. Order, receive, stock, ship, and track laboratory equipment and supplies.
8. Ensure all equipment functions correctly; schedule repairs or replacements as needed.
9. Track equipment calibrations and preventative maintenance.
10. Maintain inventory of all consumables and reagents.
11. Assist in arranging disposal of biohazard and chemical waste.
12. Enforce laboratory policies and procedures.
13. Enforce safety protocols regarding PPEs (personal protective equipment).
14. Follow established safety, infection control, security, and compliance protocols, especially concerning hazardous materials.

Requirements:

• Associate of Science Degree preferred.
• Basic knowledge in microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, and biochemistry related to infectious diseases.
• At least 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting or completion of a certification program preferred.
• Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification or Phlebotomist Certification (e.g., PBT (ASCP), RPT (AMT), CPT (NPA)) or equivalent required.
• Louisiana State Licensure required.
