JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of professional staff, supports laboratory operations, performs maintenance functions, and completes non-technical routine laboratory tests and procedures.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Washes laboratory glassware, instruments and/or cages after use. Replaces defective or broken glassware/instruments from stock,
- Sterilizes and/or stores clean glassware, instruments, and/or changes.
- Maintains a clean and sterilized work area in accordance with standard laboratory practices and procedures. Disposes of contaminated matter as needed.
- Distributes supplies and equipment for use as directed.
- Conducts non-technical, routine laboratory tests and procedures under the direction of professional staff.
- May set up and operate laboratory equipment in preparation for specimen examinations.
- Maintains simple laboratory records and inventory for supplies and reagents.
- Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies by cleaning and maintaining quality assurance records.
- May assist with experiments using animals by restraining them for inoculation and anesthetization.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Ability to operate laboratory equipment
- Knowledge of the maintenance of routine records and reports
- Ability to learn elementary laboratory techniques and safety precautions

- Research laboratory environment

- May be required to work hours beyond typical 8 a.m.-5 p.m. schedule and/or evenings and weekends as needed
