Job summary

St. Luke's Health System in Boise, Idaho, is seeking an experienced Lab Assistant to join the Anatomic Cytology Services team as a full-time Lab Assistant 3.

The role covers pre-analytical specimen processing and preparation for testing under limited supervision. You will transcribe orders, ensure proper identification and storage of specimens, and provide guidance on collection procedures while supporting patient care and safety.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: 2 years experience.
• Licenses/Certifications: None.

Responsibilities

• Transcribe laboratory testing orders accurately.
• Ensure specimens are properly identified, labeled, collected, and stored.
• Advanced specimen processing. Distribute or track specimens to testing areas.
• Advanced knowledge of specimen collections from individuals of varying ages and health conditions.
• Proficient in performing Point of Care Testing (POCT) if applicable to the site.
• Explain collection procedures and provide patient instructions to ensure proper collection and to reduce anxiety.
• May act as a resource for other team members on advanced tasks or patient concerns.
• Complies with PPE requirements for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious fluids.
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
• May register patients or provide courier services.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
