Job summary

St. Luke’s Health System is seeking a Lab Assistant 1 to support pre-analytical processing and specimen preparation for testing. The role involves transcribing orders, labeling and tracking specimens, and basic processing under direct supervision.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent with zero years of experience. Responsibilities include patient instruction, PPE compliance, and maintaining a safe work environment in a clinical setting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Transcribe laboratory testing orders accurately and efficiently.
• Ensure specimens are properly identified, labeled, collected, and stored.
• Handle basic specimen processing and route specimens to the testing areas.
• Have basic knowledge of specimen collection from individuals of varying ages and conditions.
• May perform Point of Care Testing (POCT) if applicable to site.
• Explain collection procedures to patients and provide instructions to reduce anxiety.
• Comply with PPE requirements to protect against exposure to biofluids.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
• May register patients or provide courier services.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
