Job description

Join to apply for the Laboratory Assistant 1 role at St. Luke's Health System.

The Lab Assistant 1 is responsible for the pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens and/or for the procurement and preparation of laboratory specimens for testing. The Lab Assistant 1 performs simple tasks and tests under direct supervision.

1. Sort, verify specimen labeling, order entry, and distribute specimens.
2. May perform Point of Care Testing (POCT).
3. May collect blood samples from patients, verify records, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
4. Ensure specimens are properly identified, collected, labeled, and stored.
5. May order laboratory tests in an efficient, accurate manner.
6. May explain collection procedures and provide patient instructions to ensure the accurate collection or preparation of specimens, facilitate patient/caregiver understanding, and reduce patient anxiety. Provide courier routes as assigned.
7. Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.
9. Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
10. May register patients or provide courier services.
