VARIABLE SHIFTS

Job Summary:

The Lab Assistant performs the pre-analytic phases of laboratory testing procedures and may also perform the analytic and post-analytic phases of waived testing procedures. Responsibilities include face-to-face and telephone customer service, computer data entry and retrieval, workplace cleanliness, and maintenance. The role involves documenting all activities, monitoring supplies, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements related to safety and lab testing. The Lab Assistant is responsible for following KP Laboratory policies and procedures.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Specimen Collection and Processing: Collect specimens for lab testing, understanding special collection and handling requirements for specific populations such as infants, pediatric, and geriatric patients. Process specimens according to laboratory procedures.
  2. Computer Data Entry and Retrieval: Accessions specimens, retrieves information, and enters results accurately.
  3. Other duties: Participate in Performance Improvement activities, perform maintenance, conduct waived testing and EKG testing, and teach phlebotomy students and employees.
  4. Technical Resource: Assist in resolving problems, answer pre-analytical procedural questions, serve as a frontline resource to laboratory customers, and help review and update laboratory procedure manuals.
