Role Overview

The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for entering patient and specimen information into computer systems, preparing laboratory specimens for analysis, and providing coverage at various labs, including Overlake Hospital. Training is available for hospital pathology labs, including specimen receipt, data entry, packaging for courier shipment, and support for procedures like slide preparations and frozen sections. Additional duties include maintaining equipment and reagents, filing blocks and slides, and administrative support as needed.

Key Responsibilities

1. Support laboratory functions, including specimen accessioning and data entry.
2. Assist with send-outs and support other departments, clients, and pathologists.
3. Perform quality control data entry and LIS reporting.
4. Handle slides for review, maintain equipment and supplies.
5. Perform cross-training in other shifts or departments as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: laboratory experience, accessioning, and medical terminology knowledge.
• Strong accuracy and attention to detail, especially with numeric data.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Adherence to HIPAA confidentiality standards.
• Computer proficiency, including MS Office.
• Willingness to cross-train and flexibility with hours based on operational needs.

Compensation

Pay range: $21.10 - $28.00 USD hourly. Additional compensation may include shift differentials, overtime, premiums, incentives, or bonuses. Offers are typically between the minimum and midpoint of the range, depending on experience, with potential for growth within the range over time.
